After Afghanistan's impressive 7-wicket victory over Sri Lanka in Pune, the Star Sports studio witnessed a spirited celebration led by former Indian cricketers Irfan Pathan and Harbhajan Singh. Irfan's unwavering support for the Afghanistan cricket team is a well-known fact, and his enthusiasm was on full display when he celebrated alongside Rashid Khan after Afghanistan's historic win against Pakistan in the 2023 World Cup. This time, Irfan had company as Harbhajan Singh joined him in the lively celebrations within the Star Sports studio.

The viral video captured the duo's infectious energy as they showcased their dance moves. It was a moment of pure joy and camaraderie, reminiscent of their days as Indian cricket teammates.

Turning our attention back to the match, Afghanistan, after a disciplined bowling performance, had the challenging task of chasing 242 runs to win. They completed the run chase with a total of 242-3. Azmatullah Omarzai remained unbeaten with 73 runs, while the team's captain, Hashmatullah Shahidi, contributed 58 not out. Their partnership of 111 runs remained unbroken, ensuring Afghanistan's victory.

With this win, Afghanistan secured six points and occupied the fifth position in the tournament standings. They were only two points behind New Zealand and Australia, with the top four teams guaranteed a spot in the semi-finals. This victory marked Afghanistan's second consecutive win in the World Cup, having defeated Pakistan by eight wickets in their previous match.

In contrast to their previous World Cup appearances, where they had managed only one victory against non-Test nation Scotland in 2015, Afghanistan has now beaten three former World Cup champions: England, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka.

Hashmatullah Shahidi expressed his pride in the team's performance and credited their confidence to their successful chase against Pakistan. The victory was set up by Fazalhaq Farooqi's impressive bowling figures of 4-34 in 10 overs, restricting Sri Lanka to a total of 241 runs.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz fell early in Afghanistan's chase, but Ibrahim Zadran and Rahmat Shah (62) formed a resilient partnership. Azmatullah Omarzai added momentum with his aggressive batting, featuring three sixes in a run-a-ball fifty. Meanwhile, Hashmatullah Shahidi's composed left-handed batting ensured a steady flow of runs, ultimately leading Afghanistan to a well-deserved victory with almost five overs to spare.
